The pictures below were taken on 11th May 1997 in our garden. I am hoping to collect more pictures here as the seasons progress, and capture them all in this page.
Jacobs Ladder These plants were donated by my MIL from her garden, where she is now removing them like weeds! They stand about 3 feet tall and stay in flower for months. |
Welsh Poppies and Forget-Me-Nots The poppies came from seeds collected from my MILs garden. They stay in flower for most of the summer in various shades of yellow through orange to red. They also self-seed everywhere. My perfect plant! The Forget-Me-Nots were given to us by our neighbour who had grown more seedlings than she wanted. They provide a lovely mass of colour in the spring. I am always surprised at how vigorous the growth is, both in height and spread. |
Hosta I bought this as a root from a local market for 50p. It grows extremely vigorously with decorative large leaves. It has flowered for the first time this year, but after this picture was taken. |
Lily of the Valley These came free with the house. ;-) One day soon I need to try to move them though, as the kitchen is being extended over where they currently grow.. |
Bluebell and the Bear No, not the latest Disney masterpiece.. The bear was a wedding present from our neighbour. He seems to like the smell of the sage growing in front of him.. The blue bell looks rather solitary, but we have got many more. Some of the are pink too. I'll have to get pictures of them next year though, as they're now getting past their best. |
Purple Pansies I bought these for the hanging basket that they're planted in. I would have grown them from seeds, but I don't have a greenhouse and our dining room was alreadyoverrun with other seedlings. |
Yellow Pansies These again were bought. They look a little blurred as it was very windy when I took this pictures! I am currently bringing in the baskets each night as we're having frosts again. |
Miniature Azaleas These were bought, and are growing in two planters, one each side of the French doors leading on to the patio. I love the umbrella-like structure of the plant as well as the flowers! |
These pictures were taken on 1st June 1997.
Aquilegia These are amongst my favourite flowers, and this is their first season. I grew the plants from seeds exchanged on the now ex-UK Seed Exchange List. |
Iris Another of my favourite flowers. These plants seem to be forming a very nice clump, with flowers at about 4 feet high. Beautiful! |
These pictures were taken on 20th July 1997.
Petunia This is one of the almost luminous deep pink flowers from the single Surfinia Petunia plant in my hanging basket. The plant is enormous, and has been in flower for weeks. Brilliant! Definately a must for next year. |
Paddy McGredy Rose One of the roses from the various old bushes in our back garden. We actually found the label still at the base of this one, so I can safely say that this is a floribunda rose called "Paddy McGredy". These flowers smell gorgeous. |
Yellow Peace Rose This rose flower is from a bush which needs a lot of tender loving care in a border of out front garden. It had virtually died off when we bought the house, but it's gradually coming back to life. This is one of 2 flowers it has produced this year. The petals have a lovely pink tinge around the edges. |
Scarlet Rose The other rose from the front garden. The flowers on this are definately scarlet red - a very vibrant colour with a rich scent to match. Lots of blooms on this vigorous bush! |
