I used: 5-6 ounces skeins of Red Heart in Burgundy Fleck 5-6 ounce Skeins of Red Heart in Buff Fleck CO 80 stitches with Burgundy Fleck in closed edge cast on...Knit 104 rows....Switch colors to Buff Fleck...Knit 104 more rows....Switch to Burgundy Fleck...Knit 104 rows...Switch one last time to Buff Fleck..Knit 104 rows then BO Using the seam as you go technique...start your next row...This time start with Buff...Follow the same directions for first row switching colors every 104 rows.... Do one more row using the seam as you go technique to join the first two rows to the last...This time start with Burgundy again...Make sure your colors alternate nicely in your overall pattern...Single crochet the edges...And block if needed... This makes a quick and easy checker board pattern...My next one will be done by alternating yarn textures in the squares...Maybe mohair/wool/and who knows....You could also do a different stitch in each square...Like cables/bobbles/lace and use your imagination...Any way I hope this give you all some good ideas...Its an easy pattern to do for christmas gifts...Gina ------------------------------ Date: Fri, 09 Jan 1998 09:00:38 -0700 From: Garner (rgarner@inconnect.com) Subject: [BOND] Checkerboard Afghan Just a few thoughts on the Checkerboard Afghan: The pattern does not say how big it is, mine is turning out to be 54" wide by 72" long without a border yet. I used Red Heart yarn in Hunter Green and White and it has kind of a jaunty look to it. I think it would make a nice afghan to send with a college student done in their school colors. Thanks, Ruth Ann
