Ok, I made this sweater for my oldest daughter, and didn't like the fact that
I had to do a 9 stitch band, then sew it on. So, when I made the next one for
the youngest daughter, I made lots of changes.

If you have the ISM Sweater book, giving 3 basic sweaters in sizes 24-42, with
suggetions for cables, fair isle and intarsia . . . well, this is the VNeck
Cardigan with modifications.

Using KP4 and Unger Fluffy, it took 6-50gm balls to make size 24. These
instructions are for size 36, and the instructions call for 8, so I would say
9, 10 to be on the safe side.

VNeck Cardigan with Dropped Sleeves in Mohair
KP4 on all.

Do Fronts first, and include Band with cables. Cables are ‘turned' every 6
rows with sts on each side of cable dropped and latched up every 12 rows or
so, rehanging on stitch holder.

Like this for RHS (S is stitch, D is dropped, C is cabled):
<- S S S S S S S D C C C C D S

And this for LHS:
S D C C C C D S S S S S S S ->

LEFT FRONT: Working from bottom up, closed edge cast on 53 stitches - 9 +4 are
for cabled band, 40 are for sweater. Using WY mark sts for ribbing; use stitch
holders to mark sts each side of cables. Drop sts for ribbing, leave cable
sides undropped. Keeping cables correct throughout piece, knit 14 rows, latch
up for ribbing. Place buttonholes on 3rd row of cables with a lace stitch.

Set RC000 knit 55 rows, ending with COR. Mark edges for sleeves.
To Shape neck:	*dec 1 st at RHS (this will be on the 8th st from the right,
moving all cable sts to the left one needle also), knit 1. Knit 2*
Repeat from * to * until there are 39 st remaining. Knit 8 rows without
shaping, but keeping cable correct. Put all on WY, with 26 in one section and
13 in another. (Should be 106 rows).

RIGHT FRONT: Same as Left, but reversing shaping.

BACK: You will be using 80 needles. Wrong side facing, rehang the 26 st from
left front and right front on corresponding outer edge needles (excluding
cable bands). Closed edge cast on the full 80 needles, hang hem. Knit 55
rows, mark for sleeves and continue until RC106.

Reset RC, mark for ribbing, drop stitches, knit 14 and latch up. Cast off.

SLEEVES: Wrong side facing, use 76 needles and hang sleeve edges. Knit 4 rows.
Shaping:	*Dec 1 st at both ends of the row, knit 1. Knit 4.*
Repeat from * to * until 48 st remain. Knit 3 rows, mark for ribbing, drop
stitches, knit 14 and latch up. Cast off.

NECKBAND: Right side facing, use 54 needles, pick up 28 from back and 13 from
each front cabled section. Knit 1 row, mark for ribbing, drop stitches and
knit 7 rows. Latch up and cast off.

Sew all seams.

The changes I added are these:
1.  Making the band a cable instead of just ribbing up the front;
2. Knit the cabled band as part of the front instead of separately and sewing
it on later;
3. Knit from the bottom up on the front pieces, and join with the back as it
is casted on and knitting from top to bottom;
4. Making the neckband a separate addition (instructions called for the band
to be from LHS bottom to the back and RHS bottom to the back).

This was fun to do, and even with the changes made for the adding of the band
and cabling it, it didn't take any additional time than the original design.
