Make baby facecloths with the leftovers. Cast on with waste yarn 42 stitches, knit for 6 rows. Knit 3 rows with main yarn. Move every second stitch to adjacent needle Knit across - this is forming lace holes. Knit across. *Move the third stitch in from each side to adjacent needle - side lace holes. Knit across.* repeat above for approximately 40 rows. Move everys econd stitch to adjacent needle. Knit across - this is forming final lace holes. Knit 3 rows. Bind off. - ------------------------------------------------------------------ Using the weighted claw weights e-wrap or crochet cast on one stitch, Increase one stitch - knit across, increase one stitch on opposite side knit across. Repeat above hanging a weighted hem when you have at least 15 stitches on the needle bed, Continue increasing one stitch each side until you have around 50 sttiches, Now decrease one stitch each side every row to 3 sttiches, cast off, pull thread through. You now have a plain stocking stitch diagonal facecloth, you could if you crochet add a border of shells around the whole cloth as follows. Single crochet around using a 4.5 mm hook and working one single crochet in each row and three in the corner stitches. Join. Now work a shell as follows- work three dc in next single crochet, skip one work one single crochet in next one, skip one, work three douoble crochets in next one, working 3 dc chain two 3 dc in each corner. - --------------------------------------------------------------- Using keyplate # 3 as above, Cast on 50 stitches with waste yarn. Knit for 6 rows. Change to main colour. Knit for 3 rows, convert every third stitch to purl with your latch tool. Knit for 3 rows. - convert every fifthe stitch to purl with your latch tool. Knit for 3 rows. repeat above until you have knit at least 50 rows. Knit 3 rows. Cast off loosely. Work a border around as above if desired. - -------------------------------------------------------------------------- Ribbed facecloth. using keyplate # 3 Cast on a 60 stitches. Knit for 10 rows. Latch up in knit two purl two rib, Knit for 10 rows, ladder up as above. Knit until desired length or a minimum of 70 rows. Cast off in rib. - -------------------------------------------------------------- Checkerboard Facecloth:- Using keyplate # 3 Cast on 60 stithces, Waste yarn knit for 6 rows. Using the fairisle technique work across in 3 mc and 3 cc across row. Knit for 6 rows. I only used 40 needles, since the whole purpose was to practice with one section of the garter bar. For another, I will go to 48-52 needles. Keyplate 4 1 skein Sugar & Cream 100% cotton ( I used one of the flecked yarns, very nice coloring) Hang hem over 40 needles, k6 rows waste yarn, one row ravel cord, push behind latches. E-wrap cast on (loose) over 40 needles k 3 rows turn work with garter bar k3 rows Turn work with garter bar continue k3, turn, k3, turn for a total of 42 rows. (more if you use more needles) knit last row with extra weight (pull down on fabric) so loops are looser - cast off with chain stitch cast-off. (IN REFERENCE TO RECENT POSTINGS, DO THIS CAREFULLY) pull fabric to set stitches (diagonal, length, width) I blocked by dampening the cloth, laying it flat on a towel and pulling into shape, with even edges. When dry, I very lightly steamed it. The edges didn't curl at all. This pattern took slightly more than 1/2 skein of the S&C. I worked out this pattern is from a hand-knit garter stitch dishcloth. I think the garter bar could be used to make this in garter stitch or to turn the work around after each wedge, thereby alternating the knit and purl sides and making the dishcloth reversible. Enjoy, and if any one comes up with any interesting variations, please post them. Each of the six wedges has three scallops on the outside edge. 1 ball Sugar & Cream, or any similar weight 100% cotton Yarn short hem weight claw weights Cast on 15 sts with waste yarn, and knit several rows, ending COR. Switch to MC. Knit 1 row. COL. Wedge - Repeat from [[ to ]] six times. [[1st Scallop - Repeat 3 times from ** to **: **Using 3-prong transfer tool, move the 3 leftmost stitches one needle over to the left. This leaves the fourth needle from the left empty. Open the latch on this needle - an eyelet will be formed here. Move the rightmost needle into NWP. Knit 2 rows. COL. ** Bind off 3 leftmost stitches. First scallop made. There should be 3 sts NWP on rightmost side of work. 2nd Scallop - Repeat 3 times from ** to **: **Using 3-prong transfer tool, move the 3 leftmost stitches one needle over to the left. This leaves the fourth needle from the left empty. Open the latch on this needle - an eyelet will be formed here. Move the rightmost needle into NWP. Knit 2 rows. COL. ** Bind off 3 leftmost stitches. First scallop made. There should be 6 sts NWP on rightmost side of work. 3rd Scallop - Repeat 3 times from ** to **: **Using 3-prong transfer tool, move the 3 leftmost stitches one needle over to the left. This leaves the fourth needle from the left empty. Open the latch on this needle - an eyelet will be formed here. Move the rightmost needle into NWP. Knit 2 rows. COL. ** Bind off 3 leftmost stitches. First scallop made. There should be 9 sts NWP on rightmost side of work. Move all nine rightmost stitches into HWP - 15 sts to be worked. Knit 2 rows. COL. One wedge made.]] Work several rows of waste yarn. Rehang the first and last rows of the dishcloth on 15 needles with the right sides facing each other. Bind off with crochet or backstitch. Using yarn tail from the first row, weave through and draw op to close center hole. Weave in loose ends
