From: "Ann Yotter" (gyotter@nash.tds.net) Subject: grafting Date: Wed, 30 Jul 1997 10:41:03 -0500 I've been thinking about the grafting and decided to try to write out instructions in words. I'm right handed and work from the right. The right side of the work is facing you. These are "live" sts. 4 3 2 1 U U U U this is the bottom where you started n n n n this is the top of your work - no BO 8 7 6 5 With the yarn and needle, come thru st5 from the back, go into 1 from the front, come out 2 from the back and go back into 5. Notice you have made a teardrop shape with the point down. That is one K st. 5-1-2-5 Now go thru 6 from the back and down into 2 from the front, thru 3 from the back and into 6 again from the front. That is another K st. 6-2-3-6 (Also notice that another teardrop has been formed by half of each of these sts but facing point up. That one is 2-5-6-2. Your yarn is snaking up and down in tight loops and you go thru each st twice except for the end ones.) The next st will be 7-3-4-7. Then 8-4- I don't have anymore sts to the left of 4. If this was the end of the row, I would go back into 8 again and tie off. You will be working on a loop so you will end up where you started (1 then 5) and will have the beginning to knot to. I think that is right. Your headband is a short, wide piece? You seam the sides to each other to make the loop (not much give) and then graft the long edge so it will stretch.
