Head circumference - 18-19-21-21-22-23 Keyplate 4 and bulky weight wool - 100 grams of main colour and oddments of contrast if design is required. Tension:- 4 stitches and 6 rows to one inch. Closed edge cast on 68-70-72-74-78-82 stitches. RC 000 Knit to row 20 Change to keyplate 2 and knit one row - this is for turning. The following twenty rows can be either in contrast or the same colour, or you can work some intarsia or fairisle work as this is the two rwos that will be showing at the bottom of the hat. Return row counter to 000 Knit 10-12-12-12-14-14-15 divide work. Pull 34 -35-36-37-39-41 needles on opposite carriage to holding position; * Push the one needle closest the carriage to holding position and knit one row. Repeat from * until 12 stitches remain. Knit one row. Take these off on waste yarn. What you are doing is removing half of the stitches that you have just worked and you will now return and repeat the above for the remaining stitches. Fasten off and join. Cord:- e-wrap 3 stitches knit until 5 inches in length or desired length. Make two more. Braid and attach to center of hat, baid and let hang. You can also add a tassel here if you desire. This was a pattern that once knit it is very simple and we used it for caps for kids in our area. - -------------------- Headband:- Following the above directions work until it is time to make the main part of the hat, cast off and join. This is a very wide reversible band that keeps the ears warm and a great teaching tool for fairisle and intarsia. - --------------------------------------------- Have fun bonding on the net.
