From: jccat@the-link.net Subject: Real Stocking Hat Pattern Wait until you see this hat!!!! It is hilarious. But very versatile. After I finished it tonight I put it on my leg and my husband and I decided that it would make great leggings also. So that may be my next job. What i will do is review a pattern I found for baby pants and make a pair of leggings for myself. THe pattern is as follows: I used Keyplate #3 and my gauge was 16 stitches and 20 rows to 4" Remember these are just general instructions. You can either lengthen or shorten depending on your taste. ( I would lengthen after doing the decreases in #4) That way you would have one long sock.) 1. Using closed cast on procedures cast on 88 (I did find this to be a little loose -- you may make it bigger or smaller but remember to make it an even number. 2. K24 Rows 3. Do a 2x2 ribbing as follows -- on the first stitch to latch down latch up every ladder. But on the second stitch do a shaker rib (skip every other ladder) -- Now I only went down 22 stitches.(This made a cute edging) 4. You will knit a total of 96 rows. Decrease 1 stitch each side every 4 rows. At the end of the 96th row you will have 40 stitches left. 5. Place the 20 stitches on the left side of the 0 into holding position. 6. HEEL - Place 1 needle carriage side into holding position and K1row. Continue placing 1 needle into holding position on carriage side until you have 10 stitches left in working position. 7. Reverse shaping by bringing 1 needle to FWP on opposite side of carriage. K1R Continue until all stitches (On right side) are back in working position. ** Then bring all needles on left side up to FWP and K 24 rows. 8. Repeat #5, #6 and #7 to ** for Toe 9. Remove onto waste yarn and match seams and sew together. Remember that you can change the color of the heel and toe or make them the same color as the rest of the hatsock. If you have any questions let me know. She didn't put any ribbing at the top of the sock. I put in a section of rib after reaching the number of sts before the heel. I thought a "cuff" would set the sock off a little more. Ann in Tenn
