Hi everyone,
Well, I can't believe the response to my suggestions for peaches & cream. I
guess I better post my patterns. Unfortunately, for the kids towels I never
wrote anything down (I know; shame, shame), and the kids are at their
grandparents house until we move (with their towels, of course), but I will
do the best I can.

for both patterns I use KP#3,
worsted weight cotton (I've used sugar&cream, peaches&cream, and lionbrand
kitchen cotton with no problems)
I don't think the guage is critical, but I would say it's approximately
16s&23r

I'll start with the head towel since I have this one written down, and this
is no problem. As far as if I copied this one, I went through about three
designs before I had it perfected, so I am definitely not copying someone
elses pattern, but I did see this item in the stores and decided to make my
own, so I wouldn't start selling the towels or anything, but I would think
they're ok to make and give.

Head towel: (1lb makes about 3.5 towels, you will also need a button for each
I use 3/4", and a crochet hook)

Using open edge CO 78STS, K6R WY,
1. K30R MC

2. dec 1st ea side, then every 4R to 30STS/128R, leave long end of yarn for
loop, remove to WY

3. fold in half lengthways

4. graft large end (39sts), and small end (15sts), place two sts on ea
needle and bind off with backstitch, like a shoulder seam (see below)

5. sew button at bottom of large end(open side where seam is)

6. at small end, pull yarn through top, using a needle sew yarn through once
leaving loop for crochet hook (I use size H), chain 7, join with slip st to
first chain then pull yarn back through, and bind off securely

To use: large end of towel is at the back of the head, twist several times
(the towel of course), then pull back and use loop and button to secure.

Kid's hooded towel: (1lb color1, 1/2lb color2)

First, let me give you some idea of what it looks like. I alternated two
colors, and it's two squares high by 3 squares wide (approx. 36"x24"). I
put a shaped hood right on top, in the middle of the long side (the 3sq
side).

for the towel:

1st panel

1. using open edge co 48 sts, K6R WY,

2. change to color 1, K12R, transfer every st from first row color 1 to
needles for hem (2sts on ea needle).

3. K 62R more, I did a rib on sts 3 & 5, K normally, then realease e/o
stitch and latch up skipping one ladder ea time (shaker rib?), left side.

4. change to color 2 and K68R continuing with rib, BO using backstitch

2nd panel:
I did the seam-as-you-go with panel 1, but I sewed the hem part together by
hand.

Follow as for panel 1, with no ribbing, and using color 2 first

3rd panel:
Follow steps for panel 1, with ribbing on right side.

shaped hood:

using open edge co 98 sts, K6R WY, change to color 1
K12R , graft c/o sts for hem,
RC000

K5R, Dec 1 st ea end next row, then every 3rd row 9X
K5R (78sts/38R)
cast off 29 sts at beg next 2R
work on remaining 20sts for 42R (total 82R)

finishing:
sew back seam of hood, and sew to top of towel in the middle.

If anything is not clear please let me know and I will try to explain.
Sincerely,
Melinda

I thought that might cause a question.
After you remove the towel from the machine you have 78 sts at the large
end and 30 sts at the small end.
Start with the large end and with the knitted side facing you. Place
39 sts of one side of the large end on the needles. This leaves 39 more
sts bring the other side of the large end around so the knitted sides
are facing ea other, and place the other 39 sts on the machine, you now
have two sts on ea needle. I then separate the sts by pushing the first
set back behind the latches, then push them forward again, over the 2nd
set of sts, so now there is only one st on ea needle. Bind off using
backstitch.

Repeat for small end using 15 needles

I hope this clears it up

Sincerely,
Melinda

Hi All,

I finished my experiment, and here are the results! The finished towel
is 30" x 30".
The corner hood is 9" x 9" along the two knitted sides. I made it with
a sport weight cotton on my standard machine, so I'm not giving stitch
and row directions: you can figure them out with your yarn and guage.

Complete final row in stockinette stitch, COL. Place needles not
required for hood in NWP. Work r1 and then put last stitch knitted into
NWP for r2. (shortrowing?) Before knitting r3, attach first long stitch
from next row of the body of the towel to first needle. (Seam as you
go) USE LOTS OFWEIGHTS Continue in this fashion until triangle is
completed. Bind off hood in your preferred manner. Single crochet
around towel once. Then reverse single crochet around.

This works out with the hood on the purl side. If you want it on the
knit side, you can easily finish the towel, turn and rehang it knit
side facing you before doing the hood.

You could make the hood bigger, put it on the knit side, and add eyes,
nose and mouth in the center of the triangle. Then add ears about 1/3
of the way down from the point for an animal faced hood. Whiskers would
be a nice touch. Or a clown face and do the top 1/3 in stripes or.....a
girl with braids, boy with baseball hat.... you take it from here.

Hope this is clear enough. If not, please email me.

Dale, in VERY rainy Central NY, but not complaining. Hope those fires
get put out soon!
