Thanks to her creativity and generosity we can all make these for gifts, now! Hanging Tea Towel. 1 - 50 gram ball of Bernat Handcrafter - - 4.5 mm knitting needles. This will make about half a dozen of these hanging towels. 1 - purchased tea towel - will make two. Cut tea towel in half. Crochet across to secure the edges and to give you stitches to pick up. If you own a serger, loosely serge across and pick these loops up. Pick up the loops as crocheted or serged across and place on knitting needles. Knit 2 together across. Knit 2 together across again. Knit until desired length. At this stage you may leave it square or decrease to form a diagonal or circular edge. Attach a button with dental floss if desired, for safety reasons. Attach velcro to the inside of the flip down part of the handle and the top of the handtowel. Attach a little bow if you decide to eliminate the ribbon. ------------------------ Notes: Date: Wed, 20 Aug 1997 08:13:43 -0700 From: patrick.boudreau@ns.sympatico.ca Subject: [BOND] Re: Kitchen Towel Topper Pattern? Carol Ann - if you are doing this one on the ISM, then pick up the stitches across the towel and hang on the machine, knit for a few rows say four, then decrease by putting every second needle in holding position, these will not knit now, and then knit until desired length, leaving the needles in holding position, or if this bothers you transfer them to every other needle and knit on. Hope this helps, Bonding Buddy Linda patrick.boudreau@ns.sympatico.ca Linda Boudreau ------------------------------ Date: Wed, 20 Aug 1997 12:53:20 -0400 From: craftyd@ptdprolog.net (Deb Arrowood) Subject: [BOND] Kitchen Towel Topper Pattern #1 Hi, I hope that it works out for you all. I took a regular kitchen towel ($1 at Walmart or other department stores) and cut it in half. You want the 2 long sewn or salvage edges of the towel to be on the sides. Carriage on right; use either worsted weight acrylic yarn or cotton yarn with Key Plate 3 Pull out 50 needles. Hang the cut edge of the towel on 50 needles of the ISM bed. Works just fine if you have the wrong side of the towel facing you (purl side of knitting) and push the fabric onto each needle carefully. Put weights on the bottom of the towel to hold it down while knitting. You may have to knit the first row by hand manipulating the needles and moving the carriage (remove the key plate) to the left if there is too much stress on the needles from the towel fabric. Knit 5 rows. Decrease 1 st on each side for each of the next 8 rows (32 sts). Knit 6 rows. Decrease 1 st on each side for each of the next 6 rows (20 sts). Decrease 2 sts on each side of next 3 rows (8 sts). To make hole for end of towel topper to fit through, move 2 middle sts to the needles on each side of those sts toward the outer edges (7 sts). Leave 1 empty needle in working position and with latch open, push back other needle to non-working position. Knit 1 row. Transfer the sts on the left of the hole over to the right to remove looseness in knit. Knit 11 rows. Increase 1 st on each side on every other row for the next 6 rows (13 sts). Knit 7 rows. Carriage on left. Cut yarn to a 12" length and thread end of yarn through each st on the needles. Remove from needles. Gather sts and secure. Weave in ends. Make a crocheted flower and sew it to the gathered end of the towel topper end. Slip end of towel topper through handle of cabinet and then through hole in towel topper to hold it there. Crocheted Flower: Ch 4, sl st in 1st ch to make ring. Rnd 1: (Ch 10, sl st in ring) 4 times, ch 10, sl st in 1st sl st. Good luck! Happy Bonding!
