My mother collected the fresh flowers from the florist at 9.30am. My future sister-in-law, my bridesmaid, my best friend, and my mother kept me busy organising my outfit, the flowers, buttonholes, house keys, music CDs, etc. I was ready about an hour before the car was due to arrive... and very nervous. The bottle of white sparkling wine didn't last long..
As soon as the car arrived I started to feel better. At last I could do something, instead of just waiting around. The chauffeur was also our photographer (a family member), so we had some pictures done on our front lawn first. It was a beautiful warm sunny day - more like May than September. We couldn't have asked for more perfect weather. Then it was time to go!
I felt so relieved when we got to Wombourne early, and saw my handsome groom rushing out of a local pub - apparently he also needed some Dutch courage after so many months of build-up to this wonderful day.
The service was held at 12 noon GMT. It took place at Wombourne Registry Office, attended by a wedding party of 29 close family members and friends. Apparently we were declared man and wife at 12.12pm, although we were too overwhelmed to notice the time! We had an Enya CD playing in the background before and after the service.
Photographs were taken by many people in the wedding party, and a video was also made by a family member. Much confetti was thrown - bio-degradable of course..
This was followed by an afternoon reception in the Conservatory at The Himley Country Club and Hotel for the wedding party. The delicious sit-down meal consisted of :
We then had fairly short but amusing speeches from the my father, the groom, and the best man, drank several toasts with sparkling wine, and then cut the cake, which was beautifully made and decorated by my new mother-in-law.
An interval of around 3 hours provided time to chat with the more elderly members of the wedding party before they went home. Then at 7pm it all started again..
We had an evening reception in the Clarendon Suite at the Clarendon Hotel in Chapel Ash, Wolverhampton. An enormous buffet had been prepared by several family members, although neither of us could eat anything as we were so tired. We were entertained by a D.J. (friend of ours), a band (also friends of ours!), and John's band. Around 150 people attended throughout the evening, up until midnight. We were exhausted by the end of it, but we had thoroughly enjoyed it.
We were then whisked away to a Bridal Suite complete with champagne and chocolates in the Goldthorn Hotel where we spent the night, and enjoyed a full english breakfast the following morning.
Then it was home to finish packing the suitcases ready to fly off to the honeymoon destination..
